How Many Years Will Your JAMB result be valid?

JAMB result is valid for one year only.

Did you know that JAMB result was supposed to be valid for 3 years. Let’s give you a brief story on what transpired

The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board scores are now valid for up to three years, as proposed by the Nigeria Senate house on Thursday, October 13, 2016, according to a report by the Punch News Nigeria.

With this new law, if a candidate passes JAMB in 2017 and beyond, the result would be valid up till 2020 or beyond, which is going to be a 3 year validity.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyode, stated that the JAMB result cannot be used for three years as proposed by the Senate.

The registrar was responding to moves by the Senate to extend the validity function of the UTME/ JAMB result to three years instead of one year.

At a stakeholder gathering in Abuja with past JAMB participants and civil society organizations to discuss the admissions requirements for 2018–19, Oloyede made this statement and was reported according to Punch News Nigeria.

His reasoned and explained that the purpose of the UTME was to assess academic ranking or aptitude rather than achievement.

The proposed validity of UTME results lasting for three years came to an end.

Thus your JAMB result can only be used for a year. If you fail to gain admission that year, you will have to sit for another exam.

What can you do when you don’t get admission the year you wrote JAMB?

Now that you have found out that you can only use your JAMB result for just a year, what happens if you are unable to gain admission that year.

There are so many people who score over 250 in JAMB exam, and still do not get admitted by their preferred institution.

What do you do if you find yourself in this situation? What can you do in order not to waste your efforts that year?

If you can’t gain admission to your preferred school because of deficiencies in your O’level result or your JAMB score, you can consider the following:

1. Changing institutions to schools who are still admitting until the official release of your awaiting result.

2. If you can afford a Private Institution, then get in touch with them, some will accept applicants with awaiting result.

3. If you are a little adventurous and would love to study abroad, then this is the time to go for that. You can study in countries along the coast of Nigeria such as Benin Republic, Ghana and Togo. There are good schools there that are quite affordable.

4. You might also take into account some additional admissions options while you wait for your result, options like  IJMB, JUPEB, the Cambridge A-level program, and Pre Degree are a few examples. These programs will give you the ability to get direct entry admission into most higher institutions in Nigeria.

Conclusion

It is true that JAMB validity lasting for just one year is not an ideal situation for most people. A greater percentage of candidates do not gain admission in their first year of writing JAMB.

There is nothing wrong with writing JAMB twice but then again nothing wrong with getting it right the first time. In order to boost your chances of gaining admission on your first try, study hard, score high in JAMB, plan ahead and most importantly stay informed.

Also, remember that a lot of people miss their chance to gain admission because of poor planning and lack of information. Avoid falling victim to this by gathering as much information as you need, studying hard and planning well
