All WAEC participants for every year must register for WAEC on the examination council’s official exam portal. The portal is commonly known as the WAEC portal.

The West African examination council, commonly known by its initials W.A.E.C is a pan west African examination body. They are charged with the final examination or screening of eligible secondary school leavers for qualifications for the further academic formative process.

Therefore, there are two categories of people who sit for WAEC examinations every year, they include:

1. Internal candidates
2. External candidates.

The WAEC internal candidates are candidates that registered for WAEC under their different schools. They mostly comprise secondary school final year students or SS3 (Senior Secondary 3) students. These internal candidates are usually referred to as SSCE candidates. SSCE means Senior school certificate examination.

The WAEC external candidates are those candidates that register for WAEC individually. They don’t need an umbrella school to register them. Their registration process differs from the registration process of internal candidates. The WAEC examination they sit for is known as GCE (General certificate of education).

WAEC registration is done on the WAEC portal. This portal is where the WAEC candidate’s details are taken and uploaded to the board’s database.
